Staff Profile: John Lathrop

Cimco is proud to be a team made up of diverse backgrounds, skill sets and interests. Every few weeks we highlight a member of our team to learn what makes them (and Cimco) unique.

On this Veterans Day, we take a minute to get to know John Lathrop… one of Cimco’s Veterans! John served in the Air Force for 21 years - retiring as a Tech Sergeant in 2004. John’s been with at Cimco for 5 years and does a fantastic job managing our warehouse.

Q&A with John Lathrop:

Where did you grow up?
I was born on base at March Airforce Field in Riverside, CA. I was a Military brat and grew up mainly on the west coast. Also spent some time in Kansas and Oregon while my dad was in Vietnam. I eventually joined the military to see the world. My first assignment? March Airforce Field, Riverside, California.

What are your hobbies outside of work?
My main hobby has been racing cars. I had a “super late model” and used to race the All-Star Series (various races in WA, OR, ID and Canada). Now I mainly watch my son, who took over the car. I also enjoy watching my grandsons race.

What is your favorite thing about working at Cimco?
It’s like having a 2nd family here. When I was sick and in the hospital, it meant alot to me to have the owners take time out of their busy days to come visit and see if I needed anything. Seems like every time you turn around they show they care about you.

Describe a time that your work made a difference and what you found satisfying about it.
We had an open position and I knew someone who was looking for their next opportunity. I connected them with the position and they have been a great addition to the team.

What's something throughout your career that people tend to come to you for your expertise?
Forklift advice. I’ve helped multiple guys who had never driven one before get forklift certified.

Do you have any surprise skills that no one in your professional world really knows about?
Not really... Does finishing 10th overall in a state bowling tournament in California when I was a kid count?

Best advice you ever received:
The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.
